My medicine when I feel like theres no point in living anymore, when I lose all hope [ you too can try it hopefully it works for you too ]
Before I start this piece was supposed to be out a week or two ago but instead of clicking publish I hit delete, due to this heartbreak I didn't write for a few days. Hope this kind of screw-ups doesn't happen again. It may have been for the better as I have more content than before about the aforementioned topic so yay?
Above is the artwork by Alex Grey for Tool's third studio album Lateralus, which is regarded as my generation's Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd because of the themes and messages conveyed are deep, complex and life-changing in my opinion. In this album, there are concepts taken from Bhagvat Gita like the concept of maya. There is a track about Nihilism where one is very depressed and discontent about his / her life and finds comfort in the philosophy of Nihilism, conceives it in a negative way by finding peace in emptiness, living in a self-created hole of darkness. He/she observes the moon and realises that the bright moon doesn't have a light of its own but reflects the light of the sun, the source which is resuscitate their hope and redefines the meaning of life for them. Without reflecting the light of the source the moon will be in darkness floating about without any purpose, just like how the person was in his hole.
After this life-changing revelation he \ she lifts up their head from the hole as they don't want to lie here and strengthen this self-destructive behaviour. If they don't destroy their ego soon they will reach a point from which they can't be saved. The person comes to know that we're a single mind capable of doing whatever that can be imagined after being touched by the light. Let the painful past be forgotten and be focused on the future filled with hope which paves way for infinite possibilities.
Didn't mean to review the whole song but here we are. The whole album is so sublime it's ridiculous. I just ruined the special experience of one track by dissecting it's for listeners which haven't heard it. I had to do it to give you all an idea of Tool's genius. There are certain bands where there's one phenomenal artist accompanied by average or below artist like Metalica where Kirk is simply awesome on the guitar whereas Lars is stupendously horrible on the drums which ruin their music, there was a time when I tolerated his blasphemy and listened just for those epic riffs by James and Kirk, there are some epic basslines too. Then there are great bands where all the members are average or above like the Kings of Leon, they are wonderful everything is great the vocals, bass, percussions and guitars. Finally, we have bands where every single member is a genius. Some notable bands in this category are Soundgarden, Led Zepplin, The Beatles, System Of A Down, Pink Floyd, Cream and TOOL.
Every single band is unique sure they are, just like no single person can find another who is exactly like them in every single way. Tool I feel is spiritual in a lot of ways, they are complex lyrically and instrumentally both in a league of their own. Maynard James Keenan is another person who I look up to he considered to be a modern-day renaissance man as he is the vocalist for Tool, A perfect circle and Puscifer, he is a record producer, songwriter, actor and winemaker. It may seem he is Jack of all trades and master of none but his work seems to disagree with that statement as all of them are exceptional. Have you seen a man with these many talents in the last two or three decade? He was infected with Covid 19 and has recovered, it has damaged his lungs as of now we don't know if his career as a vocalist has come to an end.
This was not how this post was when I wrote it the first time, just like how you won't step in the same river twice I guess you can't give birth to the same lines twice I guess. When I penned it the first time I deviated into four or more toipcs I don't recall any of them now. I am not satisfied with this post for some reason, maybe it's because of how horrible I've been feeling for the past few days because of various things that are not in my control. See you next time

I have to first understand Alex Grey, to comment. Not into abstract art. The ones caught the eyes of this wicked 'ol man are nudes of voluptuous one from fair sex. Shall return with a comment later.
ReplyDeleteAn old man who has still not out of his teen spirit I see. It has it's own pro's and con's they say judge nor and ye shall not be judged so no judgement. You have a good one good old man. Live life king size. Easy to say to do it's the opposite.
DeleteIt was a heavy read for me as I amnot aware of the works of any of these talented human beings. The caption of this blog looks attractive and the hope to find some connection kept me going till the end of the blog! 😁😉
